We take a look at Kim Basil - the new CIO of the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider - to see what her experience can bring to the company

Kyndryl, the world's largest IT infrastructure services provider, has announced significant leadership changes to it, including the appointment of a new Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Kim Basile, a seasoned IT and cybersecurity executive, steps into the role of CIO, succeeding Michael Bradshaw, who will now lead the company's Applications, Data and AI practice.

Martin Schroeter, Chairman and CEO of Kyndryl, expressed confidence in Basile's appointment: "Kim has been a vital leader in Kyndryl's digital transformation, which makes for a smooth transition to CIO. Her deep expertise in cybersecurity, risk mitigation, compliance, and business resiliency makes her an ideal candidate for this role."

The reshuffle also affects leadership for two of Kyndryl's major practices: Applications, Data and AI, and Cloud.

Who is Kim Basile?

Kim brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Her career began at Lockheed Martin, where she rose the ranks from Accountant to Programme Director during her 21-year tenure.

From there, it just went from strength to strength. Marked by leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies, Leidos, and Vanguard, Kim has now gathered significant achievements across sectors, all in the name of improving security, risk mitigation, cost management, compliance, and business resiliency.

Her notable career accomplishments include creating a Domestic and International Operations and Intelligence Center for classified and unclassified programs, and for her work in aligning and standardising cybersecurity controls, policies, and processes across enterprises.

This diverse background in IT, cybersecurity, and strategic management across multiple industries has equipped Basile with a broad perspective and deep expertise in navigating complex technological landscapes.

All these successes eventually lead her to Kyndryl, joining in May 2022 as Vice President of IT Transformation and Strategy, and it's from here Kim has been awarded the position of CIO.

This spawns from Kim’s crucial role in shaping the company's technological direction. Her contributions have been particularly impactful in developing strategic IT and cyber roadmaps, resulting in improved risk mitigation and positioning for sustainable profitability.

New role, new responsibilities

In the new role as CIO, Kim will build upon the technology foundation that Kyndryl's CIO team has developed over the past two years.

Her focus will be on driving continuous improvement and enhancing the employee experience, aligning with her track record of mentoring and leading teams to sustainable, exceptional performance.

CIO general responsibilities
  • Develop and implement IT strategy
  • Oversee IT operations and infrastructure
  • Drive digital transformation
  • Ensure cybersecurity and risk management
  • Collaborate with executive leadership

Kim’s appointment comes at a critical time for Kyndryl as it continues to establish itself as an independent entity following its spin-off from IBM.

But it’s her expertise in creating scalable IT and cyber roadmaps is expected to be instrumental in Kyndryl's future preparedness and sustainable growth.

"Each of these appointments aligns well with our strategy, market demand, and secular trends,” said Martin. “They will help us accelerate our growth and support our customers now and for the long-term."

As Kyndryl navigates the complex landscape of IT infrastructure services, Kim’s appointment, along with the other leadership changes, signals Kyndryl's commitment to strengthening its market position, with the new CIO with a track record in making roadmaps poised to play a crucial role in that strategy.
